You can find all kinds of things there. Winter
clothing in all sizes from infant to adult. Toys, books, house wares,
and some things that defy description... All in good condition, brand
new, unused, or almost unused. Recycling at its best!
Here are a few examples of
what you may find.
The
Mountain Thrift Shoppe, located downstairs in the shopping mall at
27248 Hwy 189, (next to Jensen's) supports nine local non-profit
organizations, including the San Bernardino Mountains Group Sierra
Club.
The profits are divided up according
to the number of hours each group volunteers, and can only be spent
within the Rim School District, according to the bylaws. Each group has
a board representative. The
Mountain Group's current representative is Heather Sargeant.
The Mountains Group ExCom
decides how the money made at the Thrift Shoppe are spent, with the
approval of the Sierra Club Foundation.
We present a scholarship each
year to a Rim High Graduating Student who intends to go into an
environmental field. Other funds go to organizations such as the
SBNFA Children's Forest, to
local environmental defense and other nature preservation causes.
If you have three hours a week to commit to
volunteering at the Thrift Shoppe, we would welcome you on board. The
hours are Mondays, from 10 am - 1 pm or 1 pm - 4pm, or
Wednesdays, 1pm - 4pm.
Call
Heather Sargeant at 336-2836 for more information.
We work hard, but have a lot of fun too, and we know our work
benefits our mountain environment.
