BACKPACKING THE JOHN MUIR TRAIL
Ed Wallace from the Big Bear Group will present a slide show and video on his monthlong backpack encompassing the entire length of the John Muir Trail plus additional portions of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Highlights of Edís trip, which started in Yosemite Valley, included climbing Half Dome, negotiating thirteen major snow covered passes and many water crossings, hiking through Evolution Valley, summiting Mt. Whitney and eventually exiting over Cottonwood Pass after 30 days, 270 miles and over 10 miles of elevation gain.
Ed Wallace has been a Sierra Club member for 30 years. Before moving from Southern California to Texas in 1995 he was an outings leader in the Los Padres Chapter. In Texas he was active in the Lone Star Chapter. After moving to Big Bear in 1992 he was active in the Big Bear Group where he served as Group Chair for three years.
Presently he serves as Outings Chair and Conservation Chair and is a nine-year member of the Executive Committee. Ed is also on the Board of Directors of the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation, the Advisory Committee of the Friends of Fawnskin and the Pebble Plain Conservation Committee headed by former Mayor and City Coucilwoman Liz Harris. During the summer Ed works as a volunteer ranger in the San Gorgonio Wilderness.
