GREAT BLUE HERON

The great blue heron is the most common and the largest of the North American herons. It is migratory and is not a full-time resident of San Bernardino mountains. It plays an important role in the freshwater eco-system. Although great blue herons are protected by the United States Migratory Bird Treaty Act, human interference causes destruction of habitat. Many herons are also killed by collision with utility wires.
